Altai Shan, formerly known as Nemertea, is a large land located in the North. The town was founded by NapoleonicDoge and DesiGod11 on December 12, 2022. The town grew quickly, with 4 other players joining over the next 4 days.

Today, Altai Shan is a major land and the capital of the nation NorthStar. IceTsunami1 is the current leader of Altai Shan, while MrCheese08 presides over the Empire of NorthStar.

History

Nemertea was originally founded in a different location, but it soon moved to the snowy taiga in the Northeast. The land quickly grew, becoming a middle-sized land in early Santoria. The land witnessed many important historical events, including the creation of Skandia, the treaty between Oskium and Kraken's Call, and the fall of Sanctuarium. However, the land fell inactive due to repeated raids conducted primarily by Gump. On January 20, 2023, NapoleonicDoge made the announcement that Nemertea was disbanded.

Following the revival of activity on the server in late May-July 2023, Napoleonic and other Altai Shan citizens regained interest in Nemertea. The town was renamed to Altai Shan (or Mount Altai) around this time, and it saw a substantial increase in population.

A few months later, NapoleonicDoge decided to step down as ruler of Altai due to personal waning interest in Santoria. An election was held to determine his successor. The two serious contenders were IceTsunami1, the then-Lord of the Military, and wyjonas, the then-Lord of the Economy. In a complicated turn of events, the player KnightSKYFALL, who had left the town several weeks prior to found the town Kitsune, won the election as a joke among Altai's players. The runner-up, IceTsunami, was made the new leader around August 24, 2023. Under Ice's rule, Altai initially prospered, but it would soon slip back into a cycle of decline and inactivity.

In late 2023 to early 2024, Altai saw an increase in activity that brought the town into a new age of resurgence. This increase in activity was caused by several things: several new players (including Recneps7 and I_Hass) joining, a conflict with NEDA that was eventually resolved diplomatically, and the increasingly aggressive actions of Ragnarok.

Tensions continued to rise due to Ragnarok's aggression, leading Ragnarok to declare ULA as an enemy. War seemed imminent until MrCheese08, the ruler of DeathCore, purchased co-ownership of ULA on February 2, 2024, which ultimately helped to calm the situation.

Cheese quickly began working to restore Altai to its former glory, working to heal the relationship with NEDA (which had just changed its name to UFN) and helping boost Altai's economy through several massive farms constructed by him and Recneps. Cheese also founded the global store Qaynan's Basement with Recneps, which was based in Altai before its merge with the SWC.

However, Cheese suddenly left both Altai and ULA in March 2024 and began working to found the nation of NorthStar. While there were initially tensions with NorthStar, Ice made the drastic decision to combine the nations, merging ULA and NorthStar into one nation. Altai Shan was now the capital of a larger, more powerful nation ready to begin a new age of prosperity.

ULA Membership

Altai Shan was the capital of the ULA, one of the oldest nations in Santoria. ULA lasted from late 2022 until early 2024, when ULA and the new nation NorthStar merged into one nation. Altai has remained the capital of NorthStar ever since.

International Relations

As the capital of Northstar, Altai Shan is on good terms with all lands that are a part of that nation. NorthStar also has good relationships with several other nations, including UFN, Elysia, AUTM, and Nameel, who make up the ACT. However, NorthStar is enemies with Ragnarok, KOS, and Fellowship.
